OSCOLA referencing generator
OSCOLA is the standard citation style for UK law schools. Choose a source type and copy the footnote citation.
OSCOLA basics
- Citations go in footnotes, with a footnote marker after the punctuation.
- Case names are italicised; there's no full stop in abbreviations (e.g. AC, QB, UKSC).
- Use square brackets when the year is essential to find the report volume, round brackets when the volume number does the job.
- Cite neutral citations first for cases from 2001 onwards, followed by the best report.
- Legislation needs no footnote if the full name is given in the text.
