Enter your grade so far, how much the final is worth and the grade you want. You get the exact score you need, plus the score for every common grade boundary in your country.
How the final grade formula works
Your overall grade is a weighted average: overall = current × (1 − final weight) + final score × final weight. Rearranged, the score you need is (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight.
Example: you have 84%, the final is worth 30% and you want 90% overall. (90 − 84 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 104%. That's out of reach, but an 80% overall (a B) needs only 70.7%.
Grade boundaries by country
USA: A is usually 90%+, B 80%+, C 70%+, D 60%+. Some colleges use 93% for an A.
UK: First 70%+, 2:1 60%+, 2:2 50%+, Third 40%+.
Canada: varies by university; many use 80%+ for an A-range grade.
Australia: High Distinction 85%+, Distinction 75%+, Credit 65%+, Pass 50%+.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate what I need on my final exam?
Subtract your current grade times (1 − final weight) from your target, then divide by the final weight. The calculator does this instantly.
What if my current grade only covers part of the course?
Use the weighted grade calculator to work out your average from completed assessments first, then enter that here.
Can I get above 100% on a final?
Only if your course offers extra credit. If the score needed is over 100%, the target is not reachable with the final alone.
